As was announced in Shul before Mussaf this past Shabbos, a short meeting was held after Maariv on Motzei Shabbos regarding what we can do to continue helping families who have been affected by Sandy.
It was decided at the meeting that as a Shul we will help a few individual families who have nowhere else to turn to restart their lives (meaning no insurance, federal aid, potential assistance from family and friends, or a community relief fund.) Once a family is identified we will do everything we can to put the family in a position to move forward with their lives. This can include electric work, plumbing work, appliances, furniture, clothing, toys, and seforim. We will do everything we can to ensure that all supplies are bought at cost. We hope to be able to help between 5 and 10 families from different neighborhoods that have been affected. Our intentions are to help these families get back on their feet and to have a meaningful impact on their lives.
Decisions about which families will be helped will be made with the assistance and verification of local Rabbonim and the senior members of our Shul relief fund will have final say on the vetting process.
Thank you very much and Tizku Lemitzvos.
